Need More Patience?

They say that patience is a virtue, but why does it have to so painful? If you are like me, an Achiever who has a bias towards action, you want to see things get done in a timely fashion (aka fast!). Making progress on important projects and initiatives creates satisifaction in one’s work. It creates [read more]

Are You Willing?

One of the joys of living in a new town is exploring the food scene. Rather than quickly settling into dining at “our favorites,” my husband and I have made it our personal goal to try a new restaurant every two weeks. This fun goal led us to walk in the front door of the [read more]

Take Time to Think

Summer is the perfect time to reflect, relax, recharge, and destress. It’s also a great time to THINK. I was reminded of the value of taking time to think while reading the book The Navigator’s Compass:  101 Steps Toward Leadership Excellence, written by my colleague and friend, David O’Brien. While there, I visited the Billings Farm and Museum and enjoyed demonstrations of sheep sheering, wool carding, and sheep herding with border collies. Sitting in the bleachers, eating sea salt caramel ice cream made by a local Vermont dairy, I watched these amazing dogs [read more]

Is your organization on top of talent management trends?

Marcus Buckingham and Jason Averbook recently released a new white paper proclaiming “a radical shift is under way in talent management, creating an unprecedented opportunity to influence how people work and experience work.” A long time fan of Marcus Buckingham and his book, Now! Discover Your Strengths, I was eager to read through his latest findings. [read more]

Unlikely lunch companions

I had an awesome day last Friday as the guest speaker at a staff retreat at Goodwin College. I was invited by their motivated leader, Sandra D Wirth, Dean of Students.  Goodwin College is an open enrollment institution of higher education, and is located in East Hartford, Connecticut. Having been on campus twice now, I have to [read more]
