Networking how-to: have more fun

Yippee, Yahoo! You can and should have more fun in your networking and networking follow-up. It can be something that brings joy and creates energy in your life and others’ lives as well.

Yet I know that many people who think of networking as a dreaded activity. It’s like having to climb stairs – and lots of them. Each step wears you down. You wish there were a faster, simpler way to get where you want to go. Well, check this out…

Watch this wonderful video produced by the creative geniuses at VW. Perhaps if we change the networking activity itself and create a more fun experience for ourselves and others, it will become more enjoyable and the preferred modality of business and career mobility.

Fun is a state of mind. You control that; no one else does. The good news is that you can instantly alter your state from moment to moment by thinking different thoughts, conjuring up great memories or making changes to your physiology (i.e., put a smile on your face, laugh, get up and move around). You can also get a bit creative and change the very nature of your networking activity.

Your Networking GOAL for this week:

Mix business networking with pleasure this week. Networking relationships are ideal for combining work and play. The ground rules for networking are such that it doesn’t have to be all business. You are there to get to know each other and to help each other in any number of ways. The benefit of this relationship may bear fruit in other aspects of your life or others’ lives. Be open to these possibilities and enjoy the process…and the activity. It’s time to add more passion, energy and more fun-factor into your weekly networking activity.
