Shake Up Your Meetings

Meeting mania, perhaps like overuse of PowerPoint, has become counterproductive in the business world today. Technology appears to have helped, by allowing us to have virtual meetings, but even that format is riddled with problems.

Yet meetings are deeply ingrained in company cultures. It’s just the way we do things, and no one questions it, even when the cost to the business is outrageous. Meetings can be a huge drain on human energy, morale, productivity, work satisfaction, employee engagement. Too many meetings create mind-numbing, body draining effects on employees. And you expect them to stay engaged under these conditions?

Perhaps it’s time to create a new paradigm for business meeting, or at least shake it up a bit more with some of the ideas in this article:

  1. Stand up
  2. Use an agenda
  3. Set time limits and boundaries
  4. Record results, decisions, and action items to ensure greater accountability and meeting ROI
  5. Host smaller meetings
